What I Want

I want…

Cinnamon and sugar

In the kitchen

On a hot summer evening

With a cool breeze

Newly cut grass

Ice jingling against glass

As it swirls in iced tea

Overpowering the lemon
I dance across the tile

Singing in tune but a little off key

A little too loud

But that gives it depth

Getting ready to share

Lovingly prepared food

With family as we talk about our day

How we managed to make a friend

How the sand was too hot

How the traffic wasn’t bad
Looking into little eyes excited to share

Flashing a knowing look to him when

The teens are pretending not to enjoy the time

More than the American Dream

Something I grew up watching from afar

Something I hope to grab on to

Only time will tell if this dream has a chance to survive
